About this site
This site, known today as the Guide to Argentine Tango in New York City, was a labor of love originally created by Richard Lipkin in the 1990’s. Richard was one of the early enthusiasts of Tango in New York. He was a dancer, a DJ and of course founder of the calendar. In October 2000 we secured the domain NewYorkTango.com to make it easily accessible and clearly represent its purpose.
Richard passed away in 2014, at which point Gayle Madeira volunteered to take over the task of updating the site. Keeping it up with the growing audience and interest in Tango was her primary goal – which she managed to accomplish with complete success. For remarkable 10 years Gayle was the backbone in this effort, and her hard work kept us all informed. Regretfully, she decided to focus her energies on other projects.
Since Nov 1st, 2024, the site is managed by Carlos Andrés Dueñas, a long time NYC Tanguero, DJ, organizer, instructor and a friend. He came with a vision of making the content easier to navigate and maintain, and of bringing the design more in line with current standards.
In summer 2026, professional product designer and tango dancer Isabella Wang led the site’s product redesign. We are happy to welcome her to the NY Tango calendar team. We are deeply grateful for her immense generosity in helping us realize a vision.
We encourage the New York Tango community to feel free to come up with ideas and suggestions to better serve us all. Together, we are looking forward to many more years helping and informing the New York City Argentine Tango Community.
