New York's tango community stands firmly against discrimination and harassement in any form. Every dancer is entitled to dignity and respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, body type, ability, religion, or background.
Close connection can be beautiful, but consent and personal boundaries always come first.
Respect everyone
Treat every dancer with dignity, across identity, background, body, age, ability, and experience.
Consent matters
You never owe anyone a dance, private meeting, physical closeness, or social attention.
Clear boundaries count
“No,” “not now,” and “I’m uncomfortable” are complete answers and must be respected.
Support newer dancers
Checking in with organizers, friends, or trusted dancers should feel normal and welcome. Dance more with newcomers!
Status is not an excuse
Experience, reputation, age, or instructor status never excuses inappropriate behavior.
